Branch 158 Fall Plow Day

Here is the latest on the Branch 158 Plow Day. Mike Cristler and I viewed the Plow Day property on Monday October 27. While the ground is very dry, it appears that the soil is soft and uncompacted enough that we should be able to plow it, even if we do not get much rain before Plow Day. In addition, some of the designated areas have either been disked or cut for hay, so plugging the plows should not be a problem. And for those who would rather do some disking, that would  open up more land for plowing.

Our Eighth Annual Plow Day will be held on November 8, 2014, but will move to a new location west of Woodland. From Highway 16 and Road 98 in Woodland, head west three miles, then turn south on Road 95 to  21000 County Road 95. The fields are not visible from the road, but turn in at the Branch 158 signs and proceed past the houses and barns to the designated parking area. We hope to have some arrows and directional signs put up. There will be a parking area of about 20 acres, large enough to accomodate all our trucks and trailers, but there is one tight turn to get in to it and the field is hard, but rough, so use caution and enter it slowly. We will have a large field forklift  with fork extensions available for unloading  and loading your equipment. Here is a link from Yahoo Maps:

This area is at least six or more miles from any stores or restaurants, so is a good idea to bring a lunch and drinking water.

This will be a hands on learning experience for those who have wanted to try their hand at plowing. We will meet around 8 am. Bring your tractor and plow, disk, or other tillage implement and put it to work. If you don’t have an implement or a tractor, that’s no problem. Bring your tractor and hook it up to one of our plows, disks, or drags or just bring yourself and we will put you on a tractor and plow. If you have never plowed before, that is all the more reason to show up and learn!

Please check with John Boehm at rustyacres@yahoo.com (preferred) or 530-668-9410 for updated details. About the only reason we may need to cancel the Nov. 8 Plow Day is if we experience a deluge of rainfall, which at this time seems unlikely. For more information or to find out about possible cancellation or rescheduling, please contact John.
